Supporting My Wife’s Fitness Journey

Over the past couple of years my wife and I have had many conversations about the next steps in our future, including me deciding to become a stay-at-home dad. Charlie was about to enter into kindergarten at a nearby elementary school, and Sammie was still behind in speech and required a couple trips a week to speech therapy. Both things, on top of the random sickness every few weeks that kept one of both of them home, pushed us to make this decision for me to stay home. Hannah is a pain management nurse practitioner at a nearby hospital, and with some tightening of our budget we found a way to live on her salary alone.

As I was stepping into stay-at-home dad mode, Hannah decided that it was really important to start focusing on her own health so she could be the best mom and wife she could be for years to come. She has struggled with weight her entire life. She lost a lot of weight before we met, and then between kids, full time work, and marriage she gained it all back. I love her regardless, but she felt as though it was time to start getting the weight off again. It was clear that without me being at home to do all these things it would have been very hard for either of us to succeed on this journey.

She found a fitness and meal program that she really liked. After talking about it, I was all in and offered to help cook all her food according to the specific measurements provided by her trainer. I also do all the grocery shopping and prepping. She puts in her full day at work then comes home to eat dinner and hang out with me and the kids. Often after the kids are asleep she will then spend some time working out. I am so so proud of her and this choice that she has made. The work I put into the cooking and grocery shopping is so worth it for her to get healthier, feel better, and be able to do more with me and the kids. I am also losing some weight as well by not eating out as much and definitely trying to drink more water! Team work makes the dream work!
